National publicity helps spread the word

Film maker and Hill 112 Memorial Foundation trustee Peter Williams has spread the word on the work of the charity nationwide, thanks to a feature in the Daily Mail.

In a full-page feature in the national daily, Peter told reporter Gavin Madeley why he had been drawn to support the charity and about his work to tell the story in a feature length documentary film.

That film, The Battle for Hill 112 – A Canterbury Tale will receive its Scottish premiere at the Dominion Cinema in Edinburgh on Monday 20 March at 6:30pm following a successful premiere in Canterbury last year.

The Scottish premiere will be a charity gala event attended by the Lord Provost and will honour the troops, many of them Scots, who died on Hill 112 in Normandy in the weeks after D-Day.

The battle took place in Normandy as the Allied forces that had landed in France in June 1944 pushed southwards. Hill 112 was a strategic point on that journey, and the long and bloody battle to secure it against Nazi Panzers is told in the film, along with the story of Gunner Albert Figg, the inspiration behind the Memorial.

The event will be followed by a  Q & A session with director Peter Williams. Tickets are priced at £25 and £20 and available from the Dominion Cinema box office, 18 Newbattle Terrace, Edinburgh, EH10 4RT (Tel: 0131 447 4771, email: boxoffice@dominioncinema.co.uk)

Or you can book tickets here

There will also be a performance of the film at the Dominion Cinema on Saturday morning, 18 March, for which army units, cadets and their families and supporters can buy tickets at £10. These tickets are also available through the Dominion Cinema Box Office.
